What is your renaissance?

Posted on Mar 17th, 2008 by shivermetimbers01
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for March 16, 2008:

My academic life is being reborn.  (I'm heading off to graduate school in the fall.)  My "evidence of spring" lies in the hope that my degree will lead to a new job opportunity where I can make a difference in the world.  ...also, I'm having to buy lots of new furniture. This should be a "springtime" I'll never forget.

Is beauty truth? (Or truth beauty?)

Posted on Mar 19th, 2008 by shivermetimbers01
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for March 18, 2008:

I think truth is beauty, and so is innocence.  Beauty, when viewed simply as an aesthetic quality, can also be truthful.  Regardless of substance, beauty posesses a captivating facade that at least appears to be the essence of truth.  It's a shame our lives are fleeting...that urn will outlast us all.

If you could undo one rule, what would it be?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for March 19, 2008:

I'd undo the rule that we have to drink out of styrofoam cups at work.  It's so wasteful!

What's the fiercest storm you've weathered?

Posted on Mar 21st, 2008 by shivermetimbers01
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for March 20, 2008:

Luckily, I haven't had to endure many storms.  I do remember, however, the 1993 Blizzard, which occured when I was 10 years old.  We had to melt snow to use for toilet water and cook food in our fireplace.  Because I was so young, though, I don't remember any sense of urgency or fright.

It breaks my heart to see other people suffer.  I've learned that I want to make a difference, even if it's just a small one.

So what do you do?  As people asked me this question throughout the year, I realized that I wanted to be doing something else with my life.  I wanted my job to make a significant contribution to the community.
